The Coon Rapids City Council accepted the resignation of street superintendent Dwaine Duncan who would retire after 15 years employment with the city. The council voted to promote Ray Cadwallader to fill Duncan's vacancy.

The Coon Rapids Education Association (CREA) proposed a $1,025 increase in base pay for the 1986-87 school year, raising the base salary from $12,975 to $14,000 or approximately 9.0%

Out of a possible 816 registered voters, only 173 turned out to vote in the city election. The only contest matched Dick Fulton against Steve Cadwallader who were vying to fill out an unexpired 1983 term. Fulton was the winner with 102 votes, while Cadwallader received 75. Three others - Kay Anthofer, Rich Ruggles and John Walburn - were all running unopposed for four-year terms.

Nancy and Kathy Grettenberg and Bill Haney were extras on the hit TV series "Dallas."

Winfred Barrett died at his home in Bayard at the age of 82.

Major storage problems caused by the huge harvest were continuing as evidence by the growing pile of corn at Mid-Iowa Cooperative's Coon Rapids facility west of Coon Rapids. The storage capacity of the facility was 1.2 million bushel and it had been full for over a week. The coop was taking around 50,000 bushels of corn each day.

Ralph and Hazel Hoover noted their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at the Municipal Building.
